Interview with Katya Clover: Become The Creator Of Your Life

There are not that many models that can define an era of erotic photography as much as Katya Clover does. Born on Sakhalin Island in the Russian Far East, shaped by a lifelong fascination with Japanese and Korean culture, she eventually became one of the most recognizable faces in the world of erotic art. She has built a career that reads like an artist's journey rather than a model's resume, and we are delighted to have Katya answer our questions and share her story with not only us, but with you, her biggest fans!

Something To Kick Things Off

What are you obsessed with right now?

Well, right now I am obsessed with raising my daughter. It's unbelievable how much happiness and joy our little ones can bring. It gives me so much love and happiness I haven't even imagined experiencing. Another thing is building a house in Thailand. It came out quite difficult, but it's something I was always dreaming about: creating a beautiful space that will inspire and gather my family and friends together on a tropical island. Also, my art: I never forget who I am and try to share with my fans and followers the way I feel this world, showing its beauty through my travels and adventures. It all comes out through my vision of photography and videos. I have different formats now- my blog, my OnlyFans, where I express a more erotic and sensual vision of feminine beauty, so all are welcome.

Describe your perfect day off.

I really love being in nature, so being somewhere with a waterfall or trekking through the woods would be my perfect day off. I also love mornings, like having breakfast, having some time for sports or yoga, then taking a swim or going to the mountains, finishing the day with a good book, and time with family is priceless. I really value these kinds of days as perfect as well.

Are you a morning person or do you come alive at night?

Actually, I am a morning person. I love the slow morning, and it's incredible to watch how nature wakes up. I see the magic in it.

What was the last thing that made you laugh uncontrollably?

My baby, she is super funny and makes me laugh all the time. Now my life is so full of these moments. It was always my dream to become a mother.

The Path That Brought You Here

What drew you to Oriental studies, and is there any of that academic side of you that still surfaces in your daily life?

I was born on Sakhalin Island, which is super close to Japan and Korea and has a lot of oriental influence in total that you can feel everywhere. Our island was Japanese for over 45 years, so you can still feel that. And I have always been fascinated by oriental culture, so it was quite natural for me to learn more about it as it was my passion. Even now, I live in Asia. I travel to Japan quite often. Even Asian people tell me that I have a kind of Asian mentality, very calm, peaceful energy. I guess that also comes from my studies of Korean culture. So I would say that all my life has this flair of Asian culture and mentality.

What do you remember about that first time posing nude in front of the camera?

The first time was with my ex, so it felt comfortable and fun, but if you are asking about the first nude shoot with a professional photographer, it was very special. I even remember the feelings. It was with my Swiss photographer Dan Fehr. He was very kind and polite and tried to make me feel very comfortable with him, while he was very passionate and fascinated by the photography he made. I felt special, confident, and gentle. I felt we were creating beauty together. It felt special and extraordinary. I never felt like that before, like an artist and model at the same time. I fell in love with art and sensual photography that day.

Was there a specific moment after those first shoots when you realized this could actually become a career?

So I understood that I don't want to go back to the office job again :) Haha, it was definitely much more fun. I traveled to new, interesting people, new photographers with their own vision, their own art, and met new models too. It was a fantastic job for me. I was quite lucky to work with such amazing artists and erotic studios. It was the golden era of eroticism in Europe.

If you had not started modeling, what do you think you would be doing with that Korean degree right now?

I guess I would go to Korea for another study actually it was my plan before I started a model career, I liked the college of event organizations like wedding and other big events, so I guess I would probably work on that field, as I like to organize trips, events, celebrations, dinners, I do that now as well but for my family and friends, so I would do that in another bigger audition I guess, or open a restaurant, something like that, maybe this dream I will also make true one day.

Does the discipline and focus that came from academic life inform how you approach modeling now?

Discipline definitely helps you in everything in your life. It's the foundation for everything you do. In any career, it helps me in daily life as well with housekeeping, with my baby, in sport, in self-esteem, everywhere. It makes you a responsible person, easy to work with. It gives trust to other people. They know you are trustworthy and intelligent, and trust and respect are everything.

Modeling

How do you prepare mentally before a shoot?

Usually I ask about the shoot ideas, the looks, makeup, and the vision of the photographer so that I can understand the mood and build my inner space and prepare for the shoot properly. It's like a role in the theatre. You need to know the character and the play itself to perform right. The preparation by itself gives you the vibe. I like to discuss with the photographer his vision and ideas. We can also look for the mood board if needed. We can also discuss the way I pose. Some photographers know exactly what they want and prefer to lead the shoot, even in posing, to command and get the position perfectly made for their vision and idea. So photographers prefer that the model freely pose, and then they can tell stop-I like this one. Let's work a bit more in that pose, so the way everyone works is very individual.

Do you have a pre-shoot ritual?

Usually It's kind of meditation. I don't use a phone; I try to go to my inner peace and be in contact with the idea. Just relax and drink some water, easy things, nothing special, to be honest, just be in the moment.

What is the difference between a shoot that feels fun versus one that feels like work?

It's all about the mood, I guess. With a good team,even work feels like fun, and it's all about the perspective and vibe you are having on the shoot, so it could always be fun with a cool team and people.

What makes a photographer earn your trust quickly?

I guess I'm a good person. It's all that is needed: being kind, honest, with a big heart.

Which photographer or studio do you feel has captured you best on camera, and why?

From photographers, I could say my friend Dan Fehr. He made my best artful photography in my opinion. I feel we are very connected as friends also, and we share a vision of beauty and sensuality. And of course my boyfriend Freddy Riger, @f_riger on Instagram, as he feels me as a woman as a person, and he is a true artist as well. From the studio, I would say it was X-Art. They had really great vision, or erotic photography like no one else at that time, and the Droyc project too, as we were working as a team and spoke about very important things for women. It also gave photography a deeper value.

You have worked with studios like Met-Art, Watch4Beauty, Playboy, and many others. How would you describe the differences in working with each of them?

Oh, everything is different, as the teams are different. For example, the X-Art team came from fashion, so they really pay attention to a beautiful picture, light, everything should be perfect. They treated models like princesses, always had great food, and dinners after work. And when they did erotic movies, they gave the most freedom of all other studios. They could even leave the model alone with the camera just to be fully relaxed and be herself.

While the team from Sex-Art wanted everything by their special script, like a real movie that has a beginning, comedy, or drama, we created real movies with dialogue, and we shot outside a lot. In some scenes, I had a fight or had to cry, so we were really acting! The director was super creative and from Italy. He was working on TV before. So the background of the directors also creates a special style of the movies and photography. Watch4beauty had a more kinky style that was funny, joyful, and flirty. So with each studio is a different world!

After more than a decade in front of the camera, what still surprises you about your own work?

New situations, new roles, and emotions that we can create together with the photographer, especially when they are challenging.

A Life Across The World

Which of the places left the deepest impression on you during your travels, and why?

Japan, Switzerland, Costa Rica. I love mountains. Japan is a different world. They live in the future, and I am in love with the people. They are so caring about each other, so respectful, and they also try to do everything the best they can. I love this quality in people. Switzerland for the nature, mountains, peaceful and safe atmosphere, and also people. Costa Rica for the nature as well

Is there a country or city that genuinely changed how you see the world?

Japan, as it's phenomenal how people act and how they do everything so perfectly and with great devotion, how they treat each other and how they treat nature

What is somewhere you have not been yet that is at the top of your list?

Australia, New Zealand, Bora Bora, Iceland, National parks of USA, Peru, Brazil, Chile

Do you always shoot while you travel?

Mostly yes, but sometimes I travel without shooting. During cultural travels or family travels, I could not even use the phone at all, just to switch off from everything.

Sensuality And Self-Awareness

What is the most sensual non-sexual thing you can think of?

Hm...maybe a foot massage. for me it is very sensual, or a dance, actually could be very sensual and sexual as well.

Do you think being naked in front of a camera is inherently sexual, or is that the viewer's projection?

Depends, like in naturism it's not a sexual thing to be naked, so mostly I would say it's projection, depending on the circumstances and idea of the shoot.

How has modeling changed your relationship with your own sexuality and body over time?

Changed a lot. It opened me up, showed me who I am, and showed me what sensuality and sexuality, femininity, and sexual energy are, as when you are working with your body and emotions a lot.

What part of your body do you think is your most sensual asset, and is it the same one fans seem most drawn to?

Well. I think it could be legs, but I think for fans it's mostly bum too :)))

A New Chapter

Without going into anything you would rather keep private, what has motherhood brought into your life that you did not expect?

Oh so much, I haven't expected so much love, and that my heart would be so over melted with it, and of course it widens your soul, abilities, and everything. You feel like having superpowers now, and your possibilities are much more than you could expect- a lot of surprises. Also, the key is to constantly work on yourself. I believe children are our teachers, so we could learn a lot from them and for them. To be a good person as the little one watches you and for them while they are small, a parent is a whole world

Has it changed how you think about your career or what comes next?

Definitely, I cannot travel so far alone as I did before. I wanna be with my girl. Also, I wanna bring something new, maybe absolutely another project. I have several ideas right now.

If you could write a book about your life, what would the title be and why?

Oh, such a difficult question. I am still struggling with it, as it's something I wanna work on, something about my origin, place of birth. It had a big influence on me, a blue-eyed Asian girl, something about that feeling.
