Interview with Emily Bloom: I Have Always Had Too Many Interests To Pick A Lane

There are models on Erotic Beauties who have impressive portfolios, and then there is Emily Bloom. Emily is one of those unstoppable creative forces. She holds an MFA in acting, produces her own erotic magazine, streams on Twitch, does aerial dance, shoots her own photography, is training for her third World Marathon Major, and is currently writing a high fantasy novel inspired by Ukrainian history.

We have been waiting to talk with Emily for a while, and when she finally had a window in her schedule, she did not disappoint. What followed was one of the most wide-ranging and interesting conversations we have had with anyone on this platform.

Something To Kick Things Off

What are you obsessed with right now?

A couple of things! I am obsessed with aerial dance, with the Dungeon Crawler Carl book series, and with sushi (always).

Describe your perfect day off

I don't remember when I had an actual full day off, as an e-girl you are sort of always working a little bit, but I think the perfect day would be strolling through an old town somewhere in Europe and admiring the architecture, then grabbing a delicious local lunch and then spending the evening catching a show or lounging about with a good book.

Are you a morning person or do you come alive at night?

Neither. I don't like waking up early, but I am also tired at night :D I am an always sleepy person.

What was the last thing that made you laugh uncontrollably?

Probably the DCC book.

Your Creative Universe

You produce the Emblem Magazine, you stream on Twitch, you have an MFA in acting, and you shoot photography. Most people in the modeling industry pick one line and stick to it, but you have branched your creative life in all kinds of directions.

When did it become clear to you that modeling alone was not going to be enough?

I think I have always had too many interests to pick a lane. Which is ultimately why I landed in modeling / camming / content creation, because it can be so many things. Modeling alone became boring pretty quickly, especially since working for other companies meant I had zero creative input. Which is why I switched completely to producing my own content. I suppose it isn't widely known, but I only modeled for others for less than two years, from the end of 2012 to mid 2014

What did producing Emblem Magazine teach you about erotic photography that being a model never could?

Considering that I produced, styled, and even photographed many of the featured shoots, the answer is that it taught me a ton! Not to mention, in the earlier issues, I featured interviews and even a few articles. I think at this point I can figure out a cool look with just about anything you throw at me.

You are one of the few people in this industry who has worked seriously on both sides of the camera. What does that perspective change about how you approach your own shoots?

I think that understanding even the basics of photography (things like lighting, angles, and framing) helps with posing. To me, photography was a natural progression because I am a curious person, and while I modeled, I always asked questions about why things were set up a certain way. Understanding what the picture may look like also helps me adjust what I do as a model.

Do you see cosplay, gaming, modeling, and magazine producing as a part of one connected idea, or do you approach them more like they are their own separate thing?

Those are all parts of one whole. I think as an online creator, you sort of become your product, including but not limited to your appearance, your personality, and your creative output. I pour a lot of myself into everything I do, and I like sharing it with my audience.

You earned an MFA in acting. Has that training ever surfaced unexpectedly in your modeling work?

I think a film degree has definitely surfaced in many ways, from producing shoots to editing content to streaming live and performing the elaborate shows I do.

Considering all of the creative paths you have found success in so far, are there some that you think about but still haven't explored?

I am currently (very slowly) working on my debut novel. It's a high fantasy heavily inspired by Ukrainian history and culture.

Modeling

How do you prepare mentally before a shoot?

I don't really prepare mentally. Shoots are natural to me at this point. I have my crew, and we are a well-oiled machine. I make sure to go to bed early the night before, plan all the looks ahead of time, and then the day goes fairly smoothly.

Do you have a pre-shoot ritual?

I do a bunch of skincare, makeup, and any final fixes to my hair and nails the morning of. That's about it.

Are there shoots that feel alive and exciting and ones that feel mechanical, like they are just a job? What makes this difference?

There are definitely both. Sometimes I just need to create a certain amount of content to make sure all my platforms are covered. It doesn't make it any less fun or creative, but it is work. Sometimes, when hourly rates and content quotas aren't involved, I get to play. In that case, I may capture only a few good shots, but I get to tweak the setup and the concept endlessly until I perfect it and get just the shot.

What makes a photographer earn your trust quickly?

I am at a point in my career where I don't work with random photographers, so I couldn't tell you. I suppose having good references from the models I know and trust, and the style of photography I like, would be a good start.

Which photographer or studio do you feel has captured you best on camera, and why?

I always love the way Holly Randall sees me through her camera. She is fantastic to work with both as a creative and as a human. I also quite enjoy the results of our collaborations with Atlas Elison.

Is there a photographer or studio you have not worked with yet that is on your bucket list?

There are a couple of photographers I follow on socials and would perhaps collaborate with if an opportunity presented itself. Mostly the ones that do really cool nature shoots.

What would your perfect photoshoot look like?

I would love to do a shoot doing aerial hanging off a hot air balloon. I like pushing creative boundaries and getting cool, interesting images.

Streaming and Gaming

What has surprised you most about your Twitch community?

The fact that they genuinely became my friends, and I truly enjoy spending time with these people on and off stream.

Do your audiences overlap, or are they entirely different worlds?

The audiences overlap, but it's not complete. There are some who consume content on both sides (SFW and NSFW), and some who stick strictly to one side. It doesn't really affect my relationship with them, though.

What has gaming given you that the rest of your work cannot?

Low-pressure environment to get to know people and let them get to know me better as well.

What game have you spent the most hours on?

Probably Vermintide II, because I keep returning to it for stress relief. I am currently playing through Subnautica 2 and loving it, though.

Is there a game that you play off-stream exclusively?

I don't ever game off-stream. I do not have time.

Sensuality And Self-Awareness

What is the most sensual non-sexual thing you can think of?

Dancing. I love moving my body, and I think dancing with someone is very vulnerable and sensual, but not necessarily sexual.

Do you think being naked in front of a camera is inherently sexual, or is that the viewer's projection?

Depends. Simply being naked is not a sexual thing in itself, but the intent makes it so.

How has modeling changed your relationship with your own sexuality?

I don't think modeling had much of an effect on my sexuality other than making me comfortable with it. Not just with my own sexuality but with sexuality in general. I do not judge, nor did it make me into some kind of deviant.

What part of your body do you think is your most sensual asset, and is it the same one fans seem most drawn to?

I think my breasts are probably the big draw. I do quite like them :D

When you imagine your life ten years from now, what does it look like?

If only I knew what it would be. I hope that ten years from now, I am content and healthy. I hope I have published my novel, have finished my recently started studies, and am still thriving like I am today.

What are you most excited about for the next year?

I have the Chicago marathon coming up this October, which will be my third star. I'm really looking forward to it and hoping to set a new PR.

If you could write a book about your life, what would the title be and why?

I find most memoirs rather dull, so if I were to write a book about my life, it would likely be fictional and inspired by rather than a recitation. What the title would be would depend on the genre.
